Lincoln woman collects books for flood stricken schools, daycares

A Lincoln woman is hoping to prevent flood damage from denying Nebraska children learning opportunities.
Sydney Worley, a former childcare worker, has collected 1,500 books for kids of all ages.
She’ll take them to schools, daycares and homes where books were damaged by floodwaters.
She said she’s seen how important reading can be to a child’s education. It can help develop vocabulary, speaking and writing skills; while also teaching valuable lessons.
Worley said this natural disaster shouldn’t deprive them of those opportunities.
The response to her efforts has been remarkable.
“I feel so blessed to live in a community that is so willing to give back and I think a lot of people have books sitting at home that they don’t know what to do with and finally they have something good and positive to do with them,” Worley said.
She’ll continue collecting books through the weekend and taken them to communities once they’re done with clean-up.
She asks that the books be new or gently used and school appropriate.
You can drop them off at Christ United Methodist Church, Connection Point Church, Code Beer Company or Adjusted Life Chiropractic.
