Lincoln woman runs across the country to raise awareness for Multiple Sclerosis

Kristina Myint is getting ready for her third year of running for the M.S run through the U.S.

“When I started doing this five years ago there weren’t a lot of people talking about it and not I see it kind of blowing up all over and it’s awesome to be able to see that it’s making a difference,” Myint said.

Over the last three years, she has covered close to 500 miles and has raised more than $20,000 for M.S, and now, because of her friend Deanna, she has a reason to run.

“I didn’t know I knew anybody with M.S when I first started doing this, and so that first year that I did the M.S run the U.S. It was amazing because Deanna was able to come out for a little bit of my run,” Myint said.

Kristina will be in charge of one segment of the run, and she’ll start May 8th in Nephi Utah, and for the next seven days, she will be running 186 miles averaging 26.5 miles each day and ending in Vernal, Utah.

But getting ready for this long-distance run is not easy.

“Getting out and doing those miles in the last winter we had this is where I was at I was out here doing 20 miles on the weekends sometimes 25 miles out in that sub-zero weather and you have to get your body ready for it and train for it so you don’t get yourself injured,” Myint said.

She, along with 18 other runners, are hitting the trails all the way from Los Angles to New York City all to raise money and awareness for M.S. But she says it will all be worth it, in the end, to run for those who sometimes can’t.

“So being able to give back to those that wish they could go run that’s really the biggest thing for me is that because I was gifted with it. I’ve never had to want to be able to go do that. I can just go do it, and for people that can’t do that it’s a challenge,” Myint said.
