Lincoln woman scammed out of nearly $9,000 in PayPal fraud scheme

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Lincoln woman was scammed out of $8,914 in a PayPal fraud scheme on Wednesday.
The Lincoln Police Department was dispatched to a home near 25th and Superior streets on reports of a scam.
Officers met with a woman who said she received an email from PayPal saying she owed it money.
She contacted the phone number provided in the email and was sent to the “fraud department,” according to LPD.
During the conversation, she was told that her bank account had been compromised.
She was given instructions on how to protect her money, which included withdrawing multiple sums of money and depositing it into Bitcoin machines.
