Lincoln woman smelled of alcohol after shooting other woman in leg, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A 21-year-old Lincoln woman was charged Tuesday in a weekend shooting.
Mercedes Kruger is facing charges of second-degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
Court documents say she shot a 44-year-old woman in the thigh Sunday evening at an apartment near Portia and Adams streets.

The two women got into an argument, and Kruger told the other woman to leave, an arrest affidavit says.
The fight then became physical, police said, though the women provided differing accounts of whom the aggressor was.
Eventually, Kruger pulled a pink Glock out of her pink purse and fired a shot, the affidavit says.
The bullet hit the 44-year-old in the leg. She was taken to a hospital and underwent surgery.
The victim told police that Kruger was drunk, and police said Kruger smelled of alcohol.
A judge set Kruger’s bond at $150,000. She must pay $15,000 to be released from jail.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for April 8.
