Lincoln woman struck by train in Crete

Authorities are investigating after a Lincoln woman was hit by a train in Crete.

The Crete Police Department said Jessica R. Maxson, 40, of Lincoln, was on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks in Crete when she was struck by the train. The incident occurred west of Boswell Avenue this morning at 4:24 AM. Maxson was walking toward the west, facing the eastbound train.

Train crew members were comforting Maxson on the north side of the tracks as emergency crews arrived on scene.  Crete Volunteer Fire and Rescue Departments transported her to the Crete Area Medical Center and StarCare flew her to Lincoln for additional care.

“We do not know why Ms. Maxson was on the tracks or why she didn’t move out of the way as the train approached her,” Crete Police Chief Steve Hensel said. “Our investigation will continue.”
