Lincoln woman trying to bring back ‘neighborhood watches’
Maghie Miller-Jenkins is on a mission to help bring back neighborhood watches in hopes of creating more interaction and relieve pressure off police.

Maghie Miller-Jenkins has lived in Lincoln for years. The house she lives in now was her childhood home. Her small neighborhood in north Lincoln is tight knit and friendly.
“Go knock on somebody’s door,” Miller-Jenkins said.”Hi, I’m your neighbor, right over here. If you need something I’m here.”
Miller-Jenkins wants every Lincoln neighborhood to have more of a connection with one another, a sense of trust and personal interaction. That’s one of the reasons she’s decided to help get more neighborhood watches back in the community. She also wants to help relieve some of the pressure from Lincoln police.
“Not only does it help our communities, but it also helps them…if there is a car accident and a domestic dispute, they don’t have to split their force,” she said.
Miller-Jenkins believes that not every situation requires police involvement such as disturbance calls. She says some situations can be resolved simply by calling a neighbor you trust.
“Our communities are perfectly capable of handling ourselves,” she said.
She says humanitarian work and neighborhood watches are her top priorities right now. Miller-Jenkins even plans to run for a seat in the senate in 2022.
