Police still investigating Lincoln man’s death, say cause does not appear to be natural

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – More details have been released in the investigation into a man’s mysterious death at a northwest Lincoln home.

On Aug. 8, first responders were sent to a home near Northwest 56th and Aurora streets on a report of an unconscious man.

Inside, officers found a 46-year-old man, who was pronounced dead at the home, police said.

The man’s wife, 40, had called 911, Investigator Patrick Murphy said in a court document filed Friday.

Officers started working to determine the cause of the man’s death, which was “not immediately clear,” Murphy said.

Investigators spoke with the wife, who said the man was drinking alcohol and had vomited before he lost consciousness.

The woman also told investigators that her husband was physically active and, at the time, wasn’t taking any medication.

Murphy wrote that he “appeared to be in very good health and there was no reason to believe that his death was a result of natural causes.”

Initially, the wife agreed to a search of the premises without a search warrant.  But she later “revoked consent” to the search, Murphy said.

Investigators also asked to interview their four children, but she also denied that request.

In the court document, Murphy said the woman “did not exhibit emotion or common signs of grief that are commonly observed with the death of a spouse.”

And during a search of her phone, which she agreed to, investigators found multiple searches that caused “immediate concern for the safety of the children,” according to the court document.

Before midnight on Aug. 8, the four children were taken into protective custody.

Murphy said the children would “remain at risk-of-harm if returned to the legal and physical custody” of their mother.

An investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed.
