LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Women’s March was held virtually this year. Last year the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Several people viewed the March online via Zoom and Facebook Live.

This year’s theme was centered around celebrating black women and their contributions in all aspects of society. The afternoon was filled with singing, prayer, guest speakers and more.

“Seeing the potential in every single one of us,” Services Employees International Union’s (SEIU) Renaye Manley said. “No matter what their color, no matter how they started. “We see the potential in them, and we’re a part of bringing that potential to the surface.”

The march featured several guests. Georgia Representative Nikema Williams, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, violinist Meredith Ezinma Ramsay, city council member Sändra Washington and Black Leaders Movement’s KaDeja Sangoyele, were just a few of the inspiring women who spoke.

Over the past year, women of all races and colors have been successful. America even witnessed the first woman Vice President. Women led rallies and marches throughout the summer.

“All summer I’ve seen black people lead these marches, lead these people towards justice, towards equality, towards a fight,” Sangoyele said.

Washington left the group with an important reminder.

“Each of us is strong, beautiful capable women. We are gifts. We are gifts of strength of love, of insight and perseverance,” Washington said.
