A Lincoln YMCA is adding a new outdoor pool at its Fallbrook location, scheduled to open in time for the summer 2016 swimming season.
The new option for fun, active family time in Northwest Lincoln will feature a waterslide, splash pad for water play, swimming/lap lanes, restrooms and a check-in stand outside of the facility. It will be easily accessible for members from the sidewalk and parking lot.
The pool will be a healthy option for quality family time and active play in Northwest Lincoln, where there are few outdoor swimming options for the community. With the YMCA’s Open Doors Financial Assistance Program for those in need, everyone will have the chance to enjoy the outdoor pool.
Much of the $1.7 million pool project is being made possible by donations and grants. The YMCA is still in the midst of its fundraising efforts and is welcoming donations to allow the pool project to open as planned.
The Fallbrook Y is attached to Schoo Middle School, which offers swim lessons as part of the curriculum. More than 7,300 participants took swim lessons at Lincoln YMCAs in the past year, and the new outdoor pool will allow room to reach even more. It will also be an outlet for healthy fun when school is out. The addition will also give the Fallbrook Y room for outdoor family and community events.
Swimming and aquatics programs at the Y have been an integral part of Lincoln YMCA offerings since it was founded in the 1890s. Water safety, fitness and swimming lessons continue to be key offerings at each of the four Lincoln locations. The Northeast Y has two active youth swim teams, and the Downtown Y offers an adult Master Swim Program. The Cooper YMCA on South 14th Street is currently the only other Y location in Lincoln with an outdoor pool.
