Lincolnite sent to district court on charge that he bought kangaroos, alpaca with bad checks

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln man accused of writing bad checks to buy exotic animals had his case sent to district court on Tuesday.
Matthew White, who said in a court filing that he sells animals for a living, waived his preliminary hearing in county court.
Madison County Judge Donna Taylor bound the case over to district court and lowered White’s bond to $25,000. He must pay $2,500 to be released.

White bought two kangaroos, an alpaca and a donkey at a livestock auction in Norfolk on Nov. 11, according to court records.
But authorities said the $6,250 check he wrote was returned because his account was closed.
When the auction operator told him about it, the 38-year-old wrote another bad check, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office said.
Then he tried to pay with a credit card, but the card was declined, according to court documents.
An arrest warrant was issued in January, and White was arrested on March 29.
He has been charged with issuing a bad check of $5,000 or more, which is a felony.
White will be arraigned in district court on April 18.
