Lincolnites flock to fireworks stands on first legal day to purchase

Fireworks sales have begun in the capital city.

On the eve of the Fourth of July, many Lincolnites were out and about Wednesday morning, stocking up on fireworks.

One stand, Wild Willy’s near 48th and O streets, was busy before they even opened for business at 9 am.

“We had tons of people coming in yesterday asking if we were open, and we had to tell them no, and to come back tomorrow, and most of them did today, so it was pretty nice, got some good sales going,” said Isaiah Mata, a stand worker.

In the city of Lincoln. It is legal to purchase and shoot off fireworks, until 11:30 pm Wednesday, and then 8 am to midnight on the Fourth of July.

Having to wait 354 days in between this two day gap is difficult for some, which could be a reason why the stands were packed.

Employees say the multi-shot cakes and smoke bombs are best sellers.

One little girl, Baylee Jo, prefers the sparklers.

Her family is celebrating the fourth a day early because family is in town.

They plan on enjoying the weather and fireworks shows.

“We will probably go swimming, grill out, do some fireworks, just enjoy some family time,” said Billie Jo Lovrien.

“Probably light some off with my mom and go out to the Sam Jam and let her see some of the activities out there,” said Brandi Joyunt.

It is important to keep safety in mind.

Officials recommend keeping a bucket of water nearby, keeping a close eye on children, and staying at least 100 feet away from any nearby structures.

Also do not shoot any off after midnight, Lincoln police will be making sure everyone is following the rules.
