Lincoln’s Ada Robinson Elementary opens after two-week construction delay
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln’s Ada Robinson Elementary School opened its doors on Monday after a two-week construction delay.
Students and staff were excited to get back into the swing of things after an extended summer break.
“It felt like all of us were skipping — students, teachers, parents — all for different reasons,” said McKenzie Wright, a media and computer science specialist at the school.
Shoshanah Schreiber, a paraeducator, said the first day of school was wonderful.
“It went way better than I thought it would,” she said. “We had little to no escalation from any of our students. And just seeing the general education population, it looks like they were having a really good day of school as well.”
To make up for the two-week delay, the school day will be extended by 17 minutes.
The school is still not 100% complete, as an entire wing is still being worked on. A playground and grassy area are also still under construction.
Lincoln Public Schools says this has always been the plan and expects those projects to be finished later in the fall.
As part of the first day festivities, a special guest came to visit.
The namesake of the school, Ada Robinson, welcomed kids Monday morning and surprised both students and staff.
