“The first Tuesday of June is my favorite thing,” Lincoln resident, Logan Biltoft said.
A nearly 90 degree day to start of this years Jazz in June, but it did not stop the hundreds of people who came out to enjoy the music along with good company.
“When I see a large crowd of people like this, I always think of an opportunity to get in touch with people and bring people together,” Lincoln resident, Jonathan Petersen said.
One of the two bands who performed are based out of New Orleans and performed in Lincoln for the first time.
“Everybody has been incredibly nice to us, no matter if it’s someone involved in the festival or just people you see on the street and you can tell y’all have a vibrant community here that’s very peaceful and supportive,” Drummer, Sam Shahin said.
Jazz in June has grown from a promotional concert event to bring awareness and visitors to the Sheldon Art Museum. The festival, so far, has served over 20,000 people.
“This is what I’m all about and I love the outdoors, I love being here,” Shahin said.
Jazz in June is free, with the option of a $10 donation. Many of the people who came out to the festival say it’s something they look forward to each year.
“I love the music, food, being outside and it’s something to do in the summers and in Lincoln,” Biltoft said.
