Lincoln’s Malone Center breaks ground on new $23 million facility

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The city gathered Monday morning at the site of the old and soon-to-be new Malone Center.

Officials broke ground for construction of the new facility.

The previous 14,000-square-foot building was leveled to make way for the new 55,000-square-foot facility.

The goal is to raise $23 million for the new building, and so far, the campaign has received just over $14 million.

The Malone Center is the oldest community center in Lincoln and primarily serves lower-income children and African American families.

“Our mission is to eliminate multigenerational poverty in Lincoln,” Executive Director John Goodwin said.
