Live action Lion King premiers in Lincoln theaters

The beloved Disney classic got a 21st Century reboot and movie viewers got to see The Lion King on the big screen Thursday.

The Marcus Grand Theater has show times running for the Lion King through the weekend. Check those out here: Movie Times.

One of the families that saw the first premier said they had made plans to go weeks in advance.

“Well it’s always exciting to be the first ones to see a movie on the premier of it. And for it to be one the whole family enjoys, it’s even more special,” Brian York said. 

The movie comes 25 years after the original version was released.

This weekend (7/20-7/21) the theater will offer free family Lion King parties where there will be free food, arts and crafts and photo ops. More details on the event: Lion King Party.

The cast is made up of names you may recognize; Beyonce, Seth Rogan and James Earl Jones, among others. 

Lincoln’s Marcus Grand managers say many tickets have been pre–purchased so seats may be hard to get.
