Bryan Health coronavirus press conference

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — This week, Bryan Health began administering the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine to staffers.

At their 11 o’clock press conference, Bryan Health officials will update the community on their vaccination distribution plans and progress.

Bryan Medical Center CEO John Woodrich said nearly 70% of Bryan Health’s staff have received the first Pfizer vaccination.

“I am very pleased with what’s happening here at Bryan,” said Woodrich. “We purchased these sub-zero freezers, and it’s nice that we’re not utilizing them that much because as soon as we get the vaccine, we’re trying to get it administered.”

As for the state, only about 40% of the Pfizer vaccines have been distributed. Experts estimate about 70% of the population needs to be completely vaccinated against the virus in order to reach herd immunity.

So, even though we’ve seen a drop in hospitalizations, Nebraska still has a ways to go before dropping COVID guidelines.

In fact, Woodrich says being cautious is the best thing we can do.

“I’m still not confident we’re past a peak. We are still being prepared for if we do see another spike occur. We don’t want to be caught off guard.”
