VIDEO: Police remark on suspicious death investigation of Carly Schaaf
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Officers with the Lincoln Police Department provide a live update in the death investigation of Carly Schaaf.
BACKGROUND: UPDATE: Human remains at Pawnee Lake identified as Carly Schaaf
On June 10, at 11:54 a.m., the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation into the human remains found at Pawnee Lake, 11500 West Adams Street. An autopsy was conducted the next day and identifying the body as that of 23-year-old Carly Schaaf.
Schaaf was reported missing by her mother on May 19, 2021. During that investigation, investigators determined she had gone missing under suspicious circumstances. The manner and cause of death are unknown at this time.

LPD PIO Erin Spilker: “… The investigation of Carly Schaaf. The Chief will be speaking, Sheriff is here for questions, and following that we will resume our normal media briefing.”
Interim Chief Brian Jackson: “Good morning, Interim Chief Brian Jackson with the Lincoln Police Department. On June 10 Approximately noon, LPD investigators located the body of 23-year-old Carly Schaaf at Pawnee Lake. Pawnee Lake is located in the western part of the county 11500 West Adams Street. During their extensive investigation into Carly’s disappearance, investigators obtain information that led to a search of that area. Investigators were not immediately able to positively identify the body. Since Pawnee Lake is within the jurisdiction of the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, LSO investigators were called in to investigate and process the scene.
“Carly was reported missing by her mother, on May 19, 2021. During that investigation, investigators determined she had gone missing under suspicious circumstances. After Carly’s body was removed, an autopsy was conducted on June 11, 2021. The manner and cause of death are unknown, and still under investigation. Investigators have conducted numerous interviews, surveillance, followed up on tips, analyzed digital and forensic evidence. This investigation is ongoing, and investigators continue to work to establish the timeline of events that led to Carly’s death.
“Carly’s family has been notified we asked the public to respect their privacy as they grieve her death, our agencies keeping them our thoughts during this difficult time.
