New Fire Chief nominated, accepting applications for Police Chief
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird is scheduled to give an update on the search for public safety leaders at an 11 a.m. news conference.
David Engler has been nominated by the Mayor to become the next Lincoln Fire and Rescue Chief. Engler currently holds the position of acting Fire Chief.
“I’m truly honored for this nomination to lead Lincoln Fire and Rescue, and the great group of professionals that we have in that organization,” said Engler. “The confidence that the mayor has in my abilities, as well as our firefighters and in the community stakeholders is truly humbling. And I’m excited to take on this position, and do the best we can to provide outstanding service and excellent outcomes to our citizens.”
Mayor Gaylor Baird said the City is now accepting applications for the position of Police Chief. The deadline to apply is April 26. All interested candidates are asked to submit a cover letter, resume, and five references.
The final candidates are expected to be interviewed by the end of May.
“At that point, We will facilitate an additional public forum to allow the community to give final input on the candidates before a job offer is made to one of them. The final action step will be approval by the city council of my selection, which we anticipate will take place in late June,” explained the Mayor.
