Purdue handles Huskers in quarterfinals of Big Ten Tournament

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The No. 2-seeded Nebraska men’s basketball team fell to No. 7 Purdue in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament on Friday, losing 72-58 at the United Center in Chicago.
The Huskers tried to make it close in the second half, but the Boilermakers used a 16-4 run down the stretch to put the game out of reach.
As a team, the Huskers shot 39% from the floor and 32% from deep, while Purdue shot 45% from the floor and 32% from beyond the arc.
Pryce Sandfort led the Huskers on 6-of-14 shooting, including 3-of-8 from deep.
Rienk Mast was the only other Husker to score double-digit points, racking up 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting.
Sam Hoiberg dished out a team-high four assists and pulled in eight rebounds, which also led the squad.
The Huskers will find out their NCAA Tournament placement during the selection show on Sunday.

At the first media timeout of the first half, Purdue holds a 21-16 lead over the Huskers.
Nebraska has six turnovers in the first half so far, with Purdue scoring 11 points off those turnovers. Purdue holds a 30-22 lead with 6:33 left in the first half.
The Huskers have struggled from the floor in the first half, as the Boilermakers hold a 33-24 lead with 3:42 left.
At halftime, Purude leads Nebraska 41-28.
Purude is shooting 54% from the floor compared to Nebraska’s 38%. The Boilermakers also have 17 points off Nebraska’s turnovers.
Pryce Sandfort is leading the Huskers with 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting. Fletcher Loyer leads Purdue with 13 points.
