Local Christmas tree farms seeing record breaking sales

Through the pandemic a lot of holiday traditions have changed, but one tradition has lived on this year, the hunt for the perfect Christmas tree.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) –  It seems the pandemic isn’t stopping people from purchasing their perfect evergreen, local Christmas tree farms are seeing an increase in business amid the pandemic.

“We have had record breaking sales for the first two days of business,” Kent Prior, the owner of Prior Pines said. “The first day we did over 300 trees.”

It seems many are turning to real Christmas trees this year and looking for their holiday decoration earlier then usual. Prior said they decided to take people by appointment before Thanksgiving day because of all the interest people showed in setting up their tree early.

On the other side of town at Spilker’s Pineridge Tree Farm, they are also seeing strong sales even though they only opened Saturday.

“It certainly was a very strong sales year as far as one days goes,” Keith Spilker, the owner of the farm said.

But why now? Why are these businesses doing so well in such a short time? Well Spilker thinks searching for the perfect tree is a persons getaway.

“We hear that kind of comment too, just happy to be out,” Spilker said. “Even though everyone is there masked up, and rightfully so, they’re just happy to be out and about, doing something like this.” Spilker added, “It’s a diversion I guess for a lot of things we have been going through.”
