Local company surprises 90-year-old Lincoln woman with new roof

At 90-years young not much surprises Gail Havlovic anymore, but that changed just a few weeks go.

“I was so surprised I just about lost my teeth.”

Years of wear and tear and recent storm damage left the former school librarian’s home in need of a new roof.

A local company, McKinnis Roofing and Restoration, was holding a contest to give one person a free roof.

Havlovic’s family helped her enter and at the beginning of October after a public vote she got the good news.

A few weeks later on October 27 McKinnis crews along with roofing materials ABC Supply donated descended on Havlovic’s house and got to work.

“We’re so happy McKinnis was able to do something like this for her and give back to the community,” said Traci Matthews, a PR person for the construction company.

Several hours, a little bit of sweat, and some elbow grease later Havlovic had a brand new roof.

The 90–year–old grandmother was still in shock the roof was hers– free of charge.

“Real, real, real excited! I don’t act like it, because it didn’t happen to me too often before that I won anything.”
