Local Learning Hub working to give busy families an easy route to obtain their CNA certification

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Certified Nursing Assistant Learning Hub rolled out a way for busy families to stay on top of their studies.

The month-long program is for those who might not have the time during the day.

According to Administrator Mirranda Brooks, this course is crucial for working families.

“People who already have careers during the day, or even stay-at-home moms who are being moms during the day, or students who are in class during the day,” she said. “The evening class is definitely targeted toward people who are busy during the day but still want to get their certification during the evening.”

The fast-tracked program provides the hours and education required to become a CNA in Nebraska, while preparing nurses for their careers.

More than 100 students have obtained their licenses after completing the Learning Hub’s course, reflecting a 95% success rate.

“It’s very, very rewarding knowing we’re sending excellent CNAs out there into the healthcare community in Lincoln,” Brooks said.

The course starts on January 5, with five spots still available.

Brooks said their success demonstrates the course’s vital importance to the healthcare community in Lincoln.

“Hospitals, nursing homes, rehab facilities, doctors’ offices, pretty much anywhere you see a nurse, there might be a CNA behind them,” she said. “In Nebraska, in order to be a CNA, you have to take a state-approved course, and then you have to pass your state testing exams, so we do all of the preparation here for the state testing exams.”

Even amid uncertainty in the job market, the Learning Hub is working to foster a positive mindset among CNAs.

“We are putting as much emphasis on the importance of the positions that we all play,” she said. “Our instructors here are all nurses, so I am continuously telling them how grateful I am for them to be here. Our students, we’re sending them out there with the confidence that they are very, very important and they play a very big role in their patients’ lives.”
