Local organizations give Lincoln mother free car

On Wednesday, Brandy White of Lincoln received a Saturn Aura for her journey to recovery from substance abuse.
“I’ve been working really hard all year to get my life back on track since I got in trouble,” White said. “I have five children who I have recently got back and we’re fighting together to get our life back.”
White said she’s 11 months sober, has a new job, is a program leader at Lutheran Family Services and is now looking to go back to school.
“We saw all that on the application, brought her in and just fell in love with her story, fell in love with her heart,” Chariots 4 Hope executive director Jason Hurt said.
The non–profit group worked with Anderson Mazda to get White the new car after she was nominated by Lutheran Family Services. They thought White could use some extra help since she has to tackle a busy schedule without having her own transportation.
“She’s got five kids now, so it’s very challenging to do that without a car,” Hurt said. “So she’s spent hours and hours just messing with transportation, which isn’t very efficient.”
White said it’s like a thousand pounds got lifted off her shoulders.
“It’s amazing,” she said. “It’s going to help out so much with work and school coming up and just having a reliable transportation.”
She also has a message for others who are working to get out of tough times.
“Just set goals and just don’t give up on them,” White said. “I mean, make them small. Don’t let the world get you down because it’s hard. But if you just keep trying, you’ll get to where you want to be and you’ll be successful.”
