Local restaurant stays open AGAIN to serve homeless, this time on Christmas Eve

Giving back to people less fortunate in the form of Southern Louisiana Cuisine.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Taste of Louisiana is back at it again, staying open on Christmas Eve to serve food to the homeless and people that are less fortunate.

The restaurant that serves Southern Louisiana Cuisine in Lincoln also stayed open on Thanksgiving, passing out plates to the needy.

“It’s important for me to do it because I used to be homeless,” Pokey Black, the owner of Taste of Louisiana said. “Even when I started this, I used to sleep in my car and stuff so I know what it feels like to not have it, so anything I can do to help, I will.”

The restaurant handed out free meals during the day both at their business or by delivery: Shrimp Fettuccine, Chicken and Sausage Fettuccine, Red beans and rice and Beef Tips. Black said he plans on doing this every big holiday and making it a tradition.

The Taste of Louisiana opened during the pandemic, just five months ago, near 1st and Cornhusker (2310 north 1st).

Black says he just hopes his food, provides a bit of comfort during these hard times.
