Long and cold winter has been difficult for those staying at the People’s City Mission

This winter season has been hard on a lot people, including those staying at the People’s City Mission.

“We’re hoping the sun is going to break out pretty soon here, but it’s been a long winter,” said Pastor Tom Barber with the People’s City Mission.

Barber says this stretch of cold has been difficult for the homeless community in Lincoln.

Coming to and from the mission on foot, a lot of people are in need of scarfs, hats, gloves and blankets.

Pastor Tom Barber also wants to get the word out about something that is important.

“Anybody can come to the mission, so if they see a homeless person on the street, tell them to come to the mission, we are taking everybody, we’ve already lost two people this year to the cold, we don’t want to lose anybody else. This really dangerous weather,” said Barber.

To donate, you can go to the shelter on Q street or to the help center at 67th and P street.

Barber says now is a great time to donate.

The mission is getting overcrowded… This winter season has put a strain on everyone.
