Longtime Milford coach Marty Hingst announces retirement

After coaching Milford football for 43 years, two-time state champion Marty Hingst announced his retirement.

MILFORD, Neb. (KLKN) – After 43 years, Milford football head coach Marty Hingst is retiring.

The local legend has coached the Eagles for over four decades and led the team to back-to-back C1 state titles in 1995 and 1996. The team also holds the state record for most consecutive victories. with 37 wins in-a-row.

“Since I’ve retired or since I announced I’ve had many people come back and say, ‘you won’t remember this, but this was really crazy at that time, and you helped me through it,'” Hingst said.  “Tears my heart. And then also, it’s a great memory. It’s good. It also means I’m old.”

But he’s not going too far. In addition to traveling and spending time with family, Hingst plans to come back and substitute teach and even watch some games this fall.

“I don’t know exactly yet if I can go cold turkey without football coaching, but we’ll see.”
