LPD: 16-year-old punches police officer in the face

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Saturday night, around 7:30 pm a 16-year-old male with an outstanding warrant was spotted inside Walmart, 2500 Jamie Lane.

Officers with the Lincoln Police Department (LPD) arrived at the retail store to take the teen into custody, but the teen did not go quietly.

According to LPD, the teen punched one officer multiple times in the face to get away. After a short chase officers were able to take him into custody.

While being led to the police cruiser, the teen kicked the back of the car, causing $1,000 in damage to a camera system installed on the back of the vehicle.

Officers confiscated a bag the teen was holding, only to find a Glock inside. This gun was reported as stolen to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office the next day.

The teen was turned over to a youth detention center for vandalism, assaulting an officer, concealing a weapon, and his outstanding warrants. More charges are possible related to the stolen weapon.

LPD says the assaulted officer is okay.
