LPD and LFR pass out safety tips for trick-or-treaters

Authorities are passing out safety tips for trick-or-treaters this Halloween.

Lincoln Fire & Rescue said children should avoid running between houses and removing masks to avoid trips and falls, and to carefully cross streets. Lincoln police added drivers should be mindful of speed limits in residential areas and watch for people crossing the road.

Officials also suggested sorting and disposing of any candy that is unwrapped or expired.

When it comes to costumes, officials say children should wear visible costumes and dress appropriately for cold weather.

Police suggested trick-or-treating in groups, and that children should share their location with a guardian. It’s also advised to not enter a stranger’s house or allow strangers into your own home. LPD said only visit homes with porch lights on and to plan routes ahead of time.

Finally, remember to lock up your homes and vehicles after the festivities are over!
