LPD host Navy Reserve Tuesday

On Tuesday, the Lincoln Police Department hosted members of the Navy Reserve for Distinguished Visitors Day.

They gave them a tour of the Law Enforcement Training Campus, which the Navy is helping improve.

"If we weren’t able to forge these partnerships…some of the improvements out here would not be able to happen," said LPD Capt. Danny Reitan.  "The Navy has estimated $1.2 million in labor costs that they will put into this project."

Navy leaders got to see the work their construction battalions — or Seabees — have done on the new K–9 facility, shooting range and other projects, which LPD said enhances their training abilities.

But law enforcement aren’t the only ones who benefit from this partnership.

"A lot of times as Seabees…where we mobilize and deploy our overseas locations in harm’s way, this type of project prepares us to do that," said 7th Naval Construction Regiment Commodore Christopher Asselta.

"It provides them meaningful training," Capt. Reitan said.  "It provides a great cost benefit to the citizens of Lincoln and really, the country as a whole because the reservists are required to do two weeks of training a year."

They said the project began in early May.  They’re currently on the sixth of eight two–week rotations and expect to finish it by September.
