LPD hosting a “no questions asked” gun drop off event

Free trigger locks and handgun lock boxes will also be given out

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Police Department will host Gun Amnesty Day this Saturday where people can surrender unwanted firearms, no questions asked.

HopeLNK will be joining LPD to provide free trigger locks and handgun lock boxes to the community, while supplies last.

The public is encouraged to drop off any unwanted legal or illegal firearms, attachments or ammunition.

The event will take place Saturday May 7 from 10:00 a.m. to noon in the parking lot on the north side of 5201 R Street.

No compensation will be given for any guns or ammunition dropped off at the event.

Additionally, police ask that guns are transported in the trunk or backseat of the vehicle in an open box or bag.

Once at the drop off site, tell staff where the weapon is located and let them retrieve it.

LPD asks that any surrendered firearms be unloaded and any breaches, slides, bolts, cylinders or actions be open.

However, if you are unsure how to unload the gun, bring it to the site and let the person who comes to your vehicle know that the weapon may be loaded.
