LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Police Department identified the officer who shot at a vehicle Sunday after a traffic stop.
Around 9:40 a.m., Officer Joseph Kernan pulled over a Hyundai Azera – which had in-transits – near 19th and Knox streets.
The driver fled into the parking lot of a nearby apartment complex.
Kernan pulled in behind the Hyundai, but the driver reversed and drove farther into the parking lot, police said.
Eventually, the Hyundai hit a dead end, and the driver reversed again, hitting a retaining wall and a vehicle.
Police said the Hyundai then drove toward Kernan, who shot the vehicle twice, striking the hood.
The driver, who police think was not injured, drove over landscaping rocks and fled.
No arrests have been made, and Kernan – who joined LPD in December 2022 – was placed on administrative leave.
