LPD launches new recruitment website
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) is launching a new recruitment website, joinlpd.com, to attract a variety of applicants.
This renewed recruitment effort is due to the number of applicants steadily declining over the last two decades. In 1999, 355 people applied to become a Lincoln officer. In 2019, that number dropped to 159.
LPD is able to hire more than 10 applicants. According to LPD representatives, they also hope to incorporate new perspectives, which are critical in connecting with the community and making informed policy changes.
Lincoln Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird agreed, saying this initiative is about growing our force in a way that reflects the background of our city.
“We’re asking residents of every background to help us grow the force by answering this call to serve our community,” said Mayor Gaylor Baird. “If you want to help others, if you want more than just a job, if you want to leave this community better than you found it, then consider becoming one of the newest members of our Lincoln Police Department.”
LPD will still be contacting neighborhood groups, colleges and universities, community centers, places of worship, and more. But, anyone interested in applying is encouraged to visit the website.
LPD will be accepting applicants through Dec. 4.
