LPD: Lincoln woman arrested after malnourished boy is airlifted to Omaha hospital

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln woman was arrested on Thursday after a malnourished boy was airlifted to a hospital in Omaha.
Angela Lowe, 46, was arrested on suspicion of felony child abuse, first-degree assault and false imprisonment.
On Jan. 12, Lowe brought a 12-year-old boy in her care to a local emergency room.
A nurse made a report of possible child neglect to the police due to the boy being significantly malnourished, too weak to lift himself or speak, and having a core body temperature of 80 degrees.
According to the Lincoln Police Department, he only weighed 47 pounds. An average 12-year-old boy should weigh around 90 pounds.
The boy was airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Omaha and was determined to be in septic shock with pneumonia.
Additional symptoms led investigators to believe he had been neglected, starved and tortured for several months.
LPD said the boy was not expected to live past a couple of days, but he remains in critical but stable condition in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.
As of Jan. 19, the child is now in state custody. Lowe is no longer his legal guardian and cannot have contact with him.
