LPD: Man arrested after speeding in a school zone

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Wednesday morning, the Lincoln Police Department (LPD) was conducting school zone traffic at the intersection of 19th and Superior Streets, near Campbell Elementary School. Around 8:30 officers observed a red Kia Spectra driving at 45 mph in a 25 mph school zone with no plates.
An officer, standing in the street at the time, attempted to stop the vehicle but it sped away. A different officer operating a motorcycle, on his way to assist with school zone traffic, recorded the Kia going 70 mph down Superior St. The second officer also attempted to stop the vehicle but, again, it fled.
The motorcycle officer observed the Kia pull into an apartment building at the 1500 block of Superior St., where the driver proceeding to exit the vehicle and run. Initially, officers were unable to locate the driver. But, through witness statements, LPD was able to identify the driver as 19-year-old Schuyler Hobbs, who was wanted for a domestic assault warrant. Later that day, around 2:30 p.m., officers tried to contact Hobbs at his home, where they spotted him running around the back. Following a short foot-pursuit, LPD arrested Hobbs.
Hobbs was charged for his current warrant and cited for speeding in school zone, disobeying the order of officer directing traffic, violating the speed limit 21-30 mph over, fleeing in a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, not wearing a seatbelt, and no proof of valid registration.
