LPD: Man targeted by scammer posing as Lincoln police chief

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man was targeted by a scammer posing as the chief of the Lincoln Police Department.
On Thursday, a 71-year-old Lincoln man said he received a call from an 877 toll-free number, during which the male caller identified himself as Lincoln Police Department Chief Michon Morrow.
The scammer told the man he was in trouble and needed to get a lawyer, according to LPD.
LPD said no personal information was compromised, and there was no financial loss.
According to the police department, Chief Morrow will never call you to say you’re in trouble and need to get a lawyer.
The man hung up the phone immediately and called law enforcement to report the incident.
LPD said if anyone calls you claiming to be law enforcement, it is always okay to hang up and call the agency directly to verify a caller’s identity.
