LPD: Man who appeared drunk drove wrong way through traffic during Cruise Night

A man who police say appeared drunk as he drove the wrong way down O Street was arrested on numerous charges.

Police say officers saw Daniel Thomas, 36, driving without his headlights on near 37th and O Street during Cruise Night around 9:15 p.m. Saturday.

An officer stopped Thomas, who police say appeared drunk and had an open bottle of alcohol in his car’s center console, and told Thomas to step out of the vehicle. Police say Thomas then accelerated back onto O Street, driving westbound in the eastbound lanes through heavy traffic.

Thomas narrowly avoided a head-on collision and pulled into a parking lot where he took off on foot before being caught and arrested, police said.

Thomas was arrested for operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, DUI, refusal of a chemical test, obstructing a peace officer, possession of marijuana less than an ounce, open alcohol container, no operator’s license, no insurance, and no headlights after dark.
