LPD: Nearly 90 vehicles towed as part of Lincoln’s nuisance vehicle ordinance since April

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Lincoln Police Department has impounded nearly 90 vehicles since the nuisance vehicle ordinance went into effect earlier this year.
The law, which allows officers to impound vehicles involved in street racing and reckless driving, went into effect on April 15.
Since then, LPD said it has deemed 88 vehicles “disorderly vehicles” and towed them.
In May — the first full month with the law in effect — officers towed 19 vehicles, according to LPD.
LPD noted that it’s seeing impounding numbers go down as the weather gets colder. So far in December, four vehicles have been towed.
After the first violation of the ordinance, vehicles can be “immediately released.” But after second or subsequent violations, vehicles will be impounded for 10 days, LPD said.
