LPD officers honored for reduction of catalytic converter thefts

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Two Lincoln Police officers had a large hand in stopping a string of catalytic converter thefts through Lincoln.

On Monday, the two officers were recognized for their work.

They received the Mayor’s Award of Excellence at the city council meeting.

With some hard work and a few arrests, Officer Brent Lovett and Investigator Jason Drager reduced the number of thefts.

According to LPD, there were 178 catalytic converter thefts in March 2022.

In August, LPD reported only 30 thefts.

“Definitely felt great to see the numbers drop almost drastically just from a couple of arrests,” Lovett said in a video on the Lincoln Police Department’s Facebook page.

This year, thefts of catalytic converters remain much lower than 2022.
