Around 4 p.m. Saturday, police were called to an apartment complex near Ninth Street and Belmont Avenue on the report of a shooting.

According to LPD, there was a series of altercations between two family members throughout the day that led to the shooting.

When officers arrived on the scene, they started CPR on Washington, who had a single gunshot wound.

LPD said they are working to determine if the 34-year-old Lincoln man, also inside the apartment, was acting in self-defense.

He cooperated with law enforcement at the scene and during a follow-up interview, and a firearm was recovered, LPD said.
