LPD: Seven teenagers cited after multiple firearms were stolen

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — After finding six teenagers in connection to the theft of three firearms, Lincoln Police claim they have found the firearms in the possession of a seventh teen.

The guns were originally stolen out of a Game and Parks vehicle on Nov. 25. Authorities say the firearms- a Bushmaster AR-15 rifle, a Remington 12 gauge shotgun, and a Remington .22 rifle-  were secured in a locked rack mounted inside the vehicle, which had been ripped out of the mounts.

During the investigation, six individuals under the age of 19 were found to be involved. As the investigation continued, Lincoln Police learned of a seventh individual who last had the firearms.

Officers served a search warrant on the suspect’s home, a 16-year-old, on Dec. 11 and uncovered a Bushmaster high-point rifle with a defaced serial number. It was determined to be one of the stolen firearms.

The teen also admitted to being involved in the burglary at a Russ’s Market, 1550 S Coddington, on Nov. 21, says Lincoln Police. The glass doors had been shattered and hundreds of dollars in liquor and cigarettes were stolen.

Officers report finding the clothing worn by the 16-year-old during the burglary at the residence as well.

He was arrested for possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a defaced firearm, and burglary.

According to Lincoln Police, six teenagers stole three guns from a Game and Parks vehicle.

The incident happened on Nov. 25 around 9 a.m. along the 100 block of W Lombard Dr.

When officers arrived on the scene, they contact the 47-year-old victim who works for Nebraska Game and Parks. The victim claimed he left his work vehicle locked and parked in his driveway, only to find it broken into the next morning.

The victim said a Bushmaster AR-15 rifle, a Remington 12 gauge shotgun, and a Remington .22 rifle were missing from his vehicle. The total loss is estimated at $2,160.

At the time, the firearms were secured in a locked rack mounted inside the vehicle. Lincoln Police say the suspects had broken in and ripped out the mounts.

After further investigation, officers identified four juveniles as suspects. All of them were cited for theft on Dec.4.

Lincoln Police additionally cited 19-year-old Leul Howell on Dec. 4 and 18-year-old Anthony Cates on Dec. 10, each for their alleged involvement in the theft and on three counts of possession of a stolen firearm.
