LPD: Teen accidentally shot and killed brother at north Lincoln apartment complex
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A teen was arrested Tuesday after accidentally shooting his brother at a north Lincoln apartment complex, police say.
Around 12:30 a.m., officers were sent to Bridgeport Apartments near 14th and Superior streets on a report of shots fired.
When officers arrived, they found a 20-year-old Lincoln man outside the building suffering from gunshot wounds, Capt. Ben Miller said. He was taken to a hospital where he died.
An investigation revealed that the victim and his 16-year-old brother had arrived at the apartment complex together in separate vehicles.
Miller said the teen was walking up to the building when he saw an unknown person in dark clothing.
The teen was “in fear for his safety” after being assaulted last week and fired multiple rounds at the person.
“The investigation determined that the unknown person he had seen was his 20-year-old brother,” Miller said.
The teen was taken into custody at a hospital and charged on suspicion of manslaughter and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.
An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.
