LPD to give traffic violation tickets to distracted drivers
April is designated as Distracted Driving Awareness Month and LPD is asking you to put down your phone and pay attention to the road.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – As we start the first day of April, Lincoln Police are starting something too. Distracted driving is a problem they deal with every day, but they’re making an extra effort to slow it down.
The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) started their “Red Light/Distracted Driving” traffic enforcement project, that will go till April 16th. This project, funded by a grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety, will allow the placement of additional officers around high accident intersections throughout the city to watch for red-light violators and distracted drivers.
Officers will also be watching for drivers who are texting. If you’re caught texting behind the wheel, you could face a $75 and $200 ticket.
Law Enforcement across the country are urging drivers to be aware of traffic signals and to put down their cell phones.
