LPD: Traffic stop leads to 4 arrests, meth seizures

On November 29 at 12:30 a.m., Lincoln Police saw a 2004 Ford Taurus driving on NW 12 & W. Adams Street with false license plates.

The driver, 36 year old Richard Mattson, was driving on a suspended license.

Officers saw a scale in the car, and the front seat passenger, 41 year old Jessica Klingman, was attempting to hide something in her waistband, later discovered to be 28 grams of methanphatamine.

Klingman admitted she had more controlled substances in her nearby hotel room.

Klingman was arrested for possession of controlled substance with intent to deliver, and Mattson was arrested for possession of controlled substance with intent to deliver and driving with a suspended license.

When Lincoln Police officers arrived at the hotel, they found 38 year old Destiny Johnson and 40 year old Kenneth Buckingham, who both had warrants out for their arrest.

Johnson jumped from the hotel room window and was apprehended by officers below.

Buckingham tried to jump, too, but retreated when he saw the officers below.  He then locked himself in the hotel bathroom and told officers he had a knife and would try to kill himself if they tried to enter.

He said he was going back to prison and would rather have officers kill him instead.

Buckingham had previous felonies of possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of a controlled substance.  He had been found guilty of all charges and was waiting to be sentenced.

Officers tried to use pepper spray, but it had no effect on Buckingham.  When they were able to budge the door open, they tried to deploy a taser, but that, too, had no effect. The second taser deployment worked.

Buckingham struggled with officers briefly before being handcuffed, was taken to the hospital to be medically cleared, and then arrested for possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, possession of a controlled substance, due to a used syringe of methanphatamine found in the bathroom with him, and resisting arrest with a deadly weapon.
