LPS recognizes district’s only Japanese language teacher

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln Public Schools recognized the 2023 Outstanding World Language Teacher Award winner at Tuesday’s school board meeting.

Tammy Lamprecht, the only Japanese teacher in the district, was honored with this award from the Nebraska International Languages Association.

She began learning about the Japanese language and culture in high school, when she got the opportunity to take a distance learning language course.

Lamprecht, fondly known by her students as Sensei, facilitated communication with a sister school in Japan, giving students the opportunity to have pen pals, host an exchange student or be an exchange student.

She also sponsors the Japanese club at Southwest High School.
