LPS says games could be canceled as excessive heat stretches into Friday

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — LPS is paying close attention to Friday’s forecast as high school football is back in full force.

The district says it’s continuing to monitor conditions after this week’s excessive heat warning was extended, and it’s making adjustments as needed.

An athletic trainer is scheduled to be at all of Friday’s competitions and using a special thermometer to get the very latest readings.

Events will be postponed or canceled if temperatures reach the extreme risk level.

They could also be delayed or include more breaks if temperatures reach the high level.

And competitions will be rescheduled if an athletic trainer becomes unavailable.

Some of Friday’s events in Lincoln have already been moved, as you can see below.

Football

  • Bellevue East vs. Northeast at Beechner Field, moved to 8 p.m.
  • Omaha Benson vs. North Star at UBT Stadium, moved to 8 p.m.
  • Lincoln Southwest vs. Lincoln High at Seacrest Field, moved to 8 p.m.

Tennis

  • Lincoln High and Northeast boys invitational at Woods Tennis Complex, on as scheduled at 8 a.m.
  • Lincoln Southeast vs. East varsity boys dual postponed.
