LPS shares plans to keep kids safe as excessive heat smothers Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska school districts are sharing plans to keep your kids safe during this excessive heat.

Here in Lincoln, LPS says it’s monitoring temperatures and implementing excessive heat protocols when needed.

Those LPS protocols include keeping students inside and suspending all outdoor classes, recess and activities.

Students are also encouraged to bring water bottles to help stay hydrated throughout the day.

They’ll be able to refill them before heading home as well.  Staff will be monitoring students to watch for heat-related symptoms.

Headaches, nausea, dizziness, weakness, irritability, thirst, heavy sweating and elevated body temperature are all warning signs.

LPS says high school athletics will follow established NSAA protocols and guidelines as well.
