LPS Superintendent tests positive for COVID-19

Lincoln, Neb. (KLKN) – Superintendent of Lincoln Public Schools, Steve Joel, has tested positive for COVID-19.

“I have recently tested positive for COVID-19 and my symptoms are very minor. I am vaccinated and boosted. Currently, I am isolating and working remotely at home while following LPS protocols and LLCHD’s recommendations.” said Joel.

Recently, LPS recently announced that over 100 staff members have tested positive for COVID, with more than 200 in quarantine.

Since Sunday, January 2nd, LPS reported 414 cases in their school district, the data includes 313 students.

The previous high weekly total was 270, set back in November 2021.

The school district currently has a mask mandate for everyone inside their buildings or busses.

LPS plans to review the mask requirement and announce any changes on Jan. 28.
