LSO: 9-year-old boy dies in hunting accident near Branched Oak Lake

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Authorities are investigating an apparent hunting accident that left a nine-year-old boy dead.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office said Gunnar Holte, of Seward, was hunting pheasants with his father near Branched Oak Lake Sunday morning when the accident happened.

LSO says Holte shot and a bird and then went to reload. His father heard another shot and rushed over as his son fell to the ground.

An off-duty Lincoln police officer who was in the area also helped and began CPR.

Holte was taken to Bryan West where he was pronounced dead.
