LSO: Man arrested after $94K auto thefts

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office (LSO), using GPS tracking and an NSP helicopter, have arrested one for stealing two cars worth over $90,000.
The investigation began when LSO responded to an auto theft on Dec. 16.
Two vehicles, a 2019 Audi Q8 and a 2012 Jaguar Convertible, were taken near SW 12th and W Denton. Both vehicles were worth $94,000.
Deputies say they tracked the Audi using its virtual cockpit, similar to OnStar, on Dec. 22. The Audi was found near 70th and Holdrege Streets spraypainted black.
Although LSO did not pursue the vehicle, the State Patrol helicopter was activated to follow the car across town until it was abandoned near 7th and ‘C’ Streets.
Officials say the driver jumped into a different car near 12th and High Streets, then attempted to flee on foot before being taken into custody.
The suspect was identified as 28-year-old Dakota Grant. He was arrested for theft by receiving stolen property.
The Jaguar was found later in a parking lot at 70th and Cleveland.
The investigation is still ongoing, LSO says more arrests are possible.
