LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Extra parking, more shuttles, and routes are on deck as Lincoln Transportation and Utilities prepare for the inflow of fans coming to see Garth Brooks.

“We also want to ease travel and traffic as much as possible,” said Liz Elliot, director for LTU. “About 90,000 people are expected to attend the Garth Brooks concert with a large portion of attendees coming from out of town. That’s an extra 24,000 vehicles in our city.”

As events happening this weekend line up with many construction sites around the Lincoln, Elliot says arriving early can help you avoid closures and traffic delays.
Lincoln Police are also preparing to direct and control traffic as they do for Husker game days.

“We’ve been working with LPD on a weekly basis and they’re going to essentially work downtown, just like they do on a Husker game day,” said Shane Dostal for LTU. “9th street, 10th street UNLLPD is going to work on some on 10th street, some on the east side of campus and that will all start at 5 pm on Saturday, and basically go until the concert-goers are all are mostly towards the stadium.”

For visitors, LTU has outlined three priority routes for drivers to use when driving into Lincoln from interstate 80 to avoid as much construction, and as many closures as possible.

“The city’s top priority route into Lincoln from interstate 80 is to take the Highway 77 B actress exit 397 so, this will take you to Rosa Parks Way exit east and then south to 10th street, where you can easily head downtown”

“One route is to take Highway 77 from South Lincoln and take the Rosa Parks Way, exit east and follow South 10th Street into downtown,” said Elliot.

Another is taking I-80/Cornhusker Highway. From east Lincoln, take exit 409, follow Cornhusker Highway and turn south on State Fair Park Drive. Then continue west on Salt Creek Roadway.

For Lincoln residents, LTU suggests when traveling downtown from the north, you should follow Antelope valley parkway to Salt Creek roadway.
Drivers from the south should follow Normal Boulevard/Capitol Parkway to “N” street downtown.

“It is an extremely exciting weekend from the graduations to Zoo Fest to Lincoln on the Streets to Garth Brooks and the Farmers Market,” said Elliot. “It is going to be an extremely busy weekend but we are prepared and ready to handle it all.”
